Shelter Manager

Krystal Hilscher joined the Jeannette Hunt (Blair) Animal Shelter team as our Shelter Manager in August, 2015! With her eight years of professional animal experience, she is eager to lend her animal expertise to helping the animals at the shelter. The shelter is a cause near and dear to her heart, as Krystal was born and raised in Blair, graduating from Blair High School in 2004. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation, earned from Northwest Missouri State University in 2008.

Krystal interned at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo during her college years, and interned at a wildlife rehabilitation facility in Wisconsin after graduation. When this internship was completed, she was hired as a Bird Keeper at the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. Five years later, she transferred to the Lee G. Simmons Conservation Park and Wildlife Safari, where she worked for the past two years as a Senior Animal keeper.

Krystal lives in Omaha with her husband, Travis, and her three “kids” – Champ, the Springer Spaniel; Bishop, the Yellow Crowned Amazon Parrot; and Ruby, the red eared slider turtle. Stop in and say hello!
